Paulo Kassoma

75th birthday

Beneath cream drapes in soft waves, woven-straw lamps filter the light over a long table of pale linen and oval-backed wooden chairs. Down the length of the table runs a band of tall grasses with orange, white and yellow wildflowers, sprigs of eucalyptus, ribbed glass jars, candles and small terracotta pots of plants.

Each place has a china plate with painted flowers, a fringed raffia placemat, an olive-green napkin and a menu card bearing the monogram “APK 75 anos”. On a lawn corner, a log-framed sofa with turquoise and floral cushions and a low table of natural wood. By night, fairy lights gild the canopy and the straw lamps glow.
