Outdoor dinner

The garden was lit from every side: strings of tiny lights in the trees and across the pergola, a gazebo draped in light over a white dance floor and, beside an arch, a grey sofa with lilac and green cushions beneath a hanging pink lampshade. Tall white and mint-green vases of wildflowers mark the way.

At the tables, turquoise and lilac cloths, cane-seated wooden chairs, olive-green napkins and kraft-paper menus, with low centrepieces of foliage and a single white bloom. A white pyramid of desserts, a cart of pastries, a bar counter with a panel of wildflowers and a sweets table complete the evening.
